Founded in 1979, J.F. Sato and Associates (JFSA) is a professional consulting engineering and environmental planning firm located in Littleton, Colorado. Currently, our staff totals 40 team members including senior-level engineers, environmental scientists, designers, surveyors, inspectors, and technicians. JFSA has established a strong presence not only in Colorado but also throughout the continental USA and Latin America.
JFSA specialists provide environmental planning, engineering and construction management services for a wide range of infrastructure projects required to support the demands of today’s urban, rural and protected environments.
Principals
Founder, James F. Sato, PE, SE
Mr. Sato started JFSA in 1979 in Littleton, Colorado as a one-person consulting engineering firm primarily providing civil and structural engineering services. Today, he can be proud to say he has built one of Colorado’s leading engineering firms. Mr. Sato brings extensive experience in planning, design, and construction engineering experience in dams, and reservoirs, penstocks, and discharge lines, canals, and hydroelectric power and pumping plants. His experience includes serving as a special consultant to Latin American countries on water resources development projects. Mr. Sato continues to be active in the firm’s management and operations serving on the Board of Directors, marketing, and provide technical support to the staff. Mr. Sato received his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawaii and a master's in Business Administration from the University of Denver.
President, Jose M. Cornejo, PE
Mr. Cornejo joined the firm in 1983 and brings a vast knowledge and solid history of experience in planning, design, and construction management for multidisciplinary infrastructure and development projects. Mr. Cornejo’s project experience includes master planning, site developments projects, traffic engineering, transportation planning, municipal projects, residential, institutional and commercial projects, parks and recreational projects, historic building assessments and rehabilitation, and sports facilities developments. Mr. Cornejo received his bachelor’s and master's degrees in Structural Engineering, both from the University of Colorado.
Vice President, Shawn S. Han, PE
Mr. Han joined the firm in 1985 and brings a diverse background in a wide variety of engineering and computerized engineering projects including transportation studies and planning, parking structures, pedestrian bridges, buildings, and water-related structures. Mr. Han received his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Chung-Yuan University in Taiwan and a master's degree in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University.
Vice President, Tim R.Tetherow
Mr. Tetherow joined the firm in 1999 and brings extensive experience in roadway and transportation planning, and landscape design treatment. Mr. Tetherow has been managing interdisciplinary study teams for environmental compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and has provided expert testimony. Mr. Tetherow received his bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Arts and Natural Sciences, University of Washington and a master's degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
Secretary/Treasure, Carol E. Mayeda
Ms. Mayeda joined the firm in 1983 as the Office Manager with a certificate of completion in Business Management from Barnes Business College. Ms. Mayeda is responsible for the overall administration and financial management of the company.
