J.F. Sato and Associates served as the civil
engineer for the Ridge at West Meadows Administrative and
Recreational Facilities Campus in Jefferson County. This development,
owned and operated by Foothills Park and Recreation District,
consists of more than 200 acres supportong a recreation center,
ice arena, administrative facility, golf course, and various
athletic fields. JFSA's services included preliminary and
final design for drainage, detention, grading, roadway extensions,
storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water main extensions, and erosion
control. Construction cost analysis and construction administration
were also provided.
The Peak administration building, Ridge Recreation Center,
and Edge Ice Arena projects involved development of three
buildings and adjoining parking facilities. JFSA designed
more than half a mile of public roadway in association with
these projects. More than 2,500 feet of storm sewer, 4,000
feet of water line, and 1,500 feet of sanitary sewer were
designed to service the buildings.
Steep terrain presented a challenge in balancing earthwork
operations for the site as a whole. JFSA designed detention
facilities to handle excess runoff from the developed site.
An existing regional detention pond was restored by removing
excess sediment, upgrading facilities to accommodate upstream development, and introducing enhanced water quality filtration.
The athletic fields project included development of two baseball
diamonds, one all-purpose field, concessions, and parking
facilities at the west end of the site. JFSA designed the
site to meet ADA access requirements and junior level sporting
regulations, and to protect nearby wetland areas.
During construction, JFSA responded quickly to contractor's
questions about the site as they arose in the field. Regular
site visits were made and construction meetings were attended
throughout the construction process to smooth the transition
from design to construction.
