I-70 Mountain Corridor Right-of-Way Monumentation
Golden to Silver Plume, Colorado
Section Breakdown/ Control Network
In 2001 the JFSA Survey / Right-of-Way group along with staff from the Colorado
Department of Transportation Region 1, was required to create a static survey along Interstate 70, from Golden to Silver
Plume. Our team used a 5700 and a 4800 GPS system along with 4 one-man GPS survey crews to accomplish this task.
Existing Right-Of-Way Plans
In 2001 the JFSA Survey
/ Right-of-Way group was required to determine the existing
right-of-way of a portion of Interstate 70. What made this
project challenging was the length of the project, the mining
claims that checkerboard the area, along with illegible Colorado
Department of Transportation Right-of-Way plans, subdivision
plats, and mountainous terrain. The mild winter made it possible
for our crews to work nonstop until the project was completed.
Much of the control that was found was initially set in the
mid 1950's when this portion of the highway was monumented
and built. Using a Trimble 5700 GPS, and the control network
developed in the beginning of this project, we tied out existing
right-of-way monuments, which were then used to develop search
coordinates and finally to set the missing right-of-way corners
with CDOT type II monuments.
