Platte/Powers Interchange
Colorado Springs, Colorado

As part of a relocation of US 24 through Colorado Springs, Colorado, JFSA provided Design and Construction Administration services for conversion of this at-grade intersection to a grade-separated interchange, and designed over two miles of roadway. The project included extensive collaboration with the City of Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs Airport, and Peterson Air Force Base to develop and perform the design and construction.

The centerpiece of this project is the bridge over Powers Boulevard. The bridge is a two-span, post-tensioned concrete box girder, which was cast in place over live traffic. This was allowed by designing enough flexibility to permit various falsework arrangements over Powers Boulevard. JFSA, CDOT and the City of Colorado Springs all worked together to create an aesthetic concept on this project to maintain a distinctive theme for the Powers Corridor. The bridge was designed with an appealing color scheme on the superstructure and piers. The abutments were adorned with intricate wingwalls and three-tiered block facing retaining walls.
